Neoptera is an infraclass divided into three cohorts: Polyneoptera, Paraneoptera and Endopterygota. This page deals with seven of the orders of Polyneoptera (in bold below). The rest of Polyneoptera and the other two chorts of Neoptera will be addressed on the following pages.

PLECOPTERA 

The order of stoneflies. As of 2024, 72 species of Plecoptera have been observed in iNaturalist in the US and 215 throughout the world.

The order of web spinners. As of 2024, 7 species of Embioptera have been observed in iNaturalist in the US and 21 throughout the world.

ZORAPTERA2

The order of angel insects. As of 2024, only 1 species of Zoraptera has been observed in iNaturalist in the US and throughout the world. It has been observed in the general vicinity of Trip 2 in the Experiencing Life series but not at one of the trip locations.

The order of Earwigs. As of 2024, 25 species of Dermaptera have been observed in iNaturalist in the US and 430 throughout the world.

PHASMATODEA 

Phasmatodea, sometimes know as Phasmida, is the order of stick insects. As of 2024, 38 species of Phasmatodea have been observed in iNaturalist in the US and 985 throughout the world.

MANTOPHASMATODEA 

Mantophasmatodea is the order of Rock Crawlers. As of 2024, no species of Mantophasmatodea have been observed in iNaturalist in the US and only 5 throughout the world. All 15 observations have been in South Africa and Namibia.

Grylloblattodea is the order of Ice Crawlers. As of 2024, 7 species of Grylloblattodea have been observed in iNaturalist in the US and 11 throughout the world.
