The Bay of Fundy, just north of Maine, has the highest tides in the world. This is a good location for studying intertidal organisms. It is also a hotspot for whale observation. Some of the fifteen whale species observed include Minke, Sei, Finback, Humpback and Right Whales and the Harbour Porpoise
On the coastal border with Canada lies the largest whirlpool in the western hemisphere.
